FAQS

WHAT IS TUTORING?

Tutoring is different to school as there is more direct interaction, allowing children the space to shine and address areas of difficulty.

Some children need support in specific areas whereas others benefit from overall support and confidence building in a small group setting.

In some situations, we've been able to tutor groups of friends together where parents have the same need. This can be fun for the children and helpful for parents.

IS 11+ TUTORING RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?

You know your child best and will know what secondary school is likely to suit them.

Within our 11+ course,  we cover elements of the year 5 & 6 curriculum at speed. Tutees need a good grasp of maths and English.

We can help your child with confidence and understanding although we cannot guarantee success in the 11+ examination as this is about personal performance on the day. We look to have an open dialogue with parents throughout the year.

There are useful resources on the Buckinghamshire County Council website with regard to thinking about school choices.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC TEACHING QUALIFICATION?

At Total Tutoring we believe all our tutors should hold qualified teacher status (QTS) and have relevant educational experience. We are particular in working with tutors we know to have a good manner with children of this age.

In exceptional instances, where an individual need arises, we may call on services from other education professionals.

All of our tutors are DBS checked (safeguarding).

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?

When you enrol with Total Tutoring, we require £100 as a non-refundable deposit. Payment is half-termly and in advance for courses. There is a half-term notice period.

As Summer school is a single week, there is a payment in full before the school with a deposit earlier in the year.

Electronic transfer is the preferred payment method.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS?

Students are required to provide stationary and for most courses there are a number of course work books to purchase in advance. A book list is provided on registration.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR TEACHING SESSIONS?

We run group sessions in Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe, near the Rye and by arrangement in other locations.

Our 11+ exam preparation summer school is at a local school or community centre.
